This new book is entitled From Sea to Sea: River Plate to Lake Michigan. The author, Nelda B. Gaydou, is the Bedford’s eldest daughter. Nelda authored the first book To the Ends of the Earth: High Plains to Patagonia, which won the 2017 International Book Award for General Biography.

Dr. Ben and his lovely bride LaNell are true heroes of the faith. I am honored to have watched, and participated with, them during the time our ministries at Del Norte Baptist Church, Albuquerque, intersected (2007-2012).

This new book continues their story, beginning in 1964, when Dr. Ben had just completed his Doctor of Theology (Th.D.) degree and the family is headed back to South America after a furlough. I found this second book to be just as riveting and easy to read as the first one. The author does an excellent job of combining interesting historical facts about the countries, communities, and ministries they were involved in, with the fun and sometimes not-so-fun experiences of their everyday lives.

We learn about the expanding work of the Gospel in South America as seen through the eyes of those who were actually “on the ground.” We see a glimpse of our Lord’s mighty deeds completed in their midst.

The most enjoyable part of the book, to me, occurs in the final sections where we observe what happens to Dr. Ben and LaNell upon retirement. The book clearly shows that after more than 40 years as full-time Southern Baptist Missionaries, when it came time to come home, they barely slowed down in work for their Lord.

I hope you will order a copy this week. When you are done with it, share it with your friends.
